Trim levels are used by manufacturers to identify a vehicle’s level of equipment or special features.[1][2][3] The equipment/features fitted to a particular vehicle also depend on any options packages or individual options that the car was ordered with.

Usage[edit]

For a given car model, the trim level denotes which equipment and features are included as standard. A car buyer may add to this standard equipment with trim packages or individual options. The trim level with the least equipment/features is referred to as the «base model»,[2] and the trim level with the most equipment/features is referred to as «highest specification» or colloquially as «fully loaded». Differences between trim levels typically consist of interior equipment (e.g. leather seats and reversing cameras) and cosmetic changes;[2][3] however, sometimes a trim level can include mechanical changes such as different engines, suspension, or all-wheel drive systems.[4][5]

Some car brands use a different car model for what could be instead considered a trim level, therefore the distinction between a model and trim level can vary between brands. For example, Volkswagen could choose to market the Golf GTi either as a standalone model, or as a trim level within the Golf model.

Manufacturers sometimes offer «delete options» — this is when one or more standard items of equipment from a certain trim level may be deleted, sometimes for free and sometimes with a credit. Sometimes the delete option costs extra: In the 1980s, German luxury car buyers began to pay manufacturers extra not to have the badges indicating engine fitment installed. Debadging went on to gain popularity across the market, both as a form of reverse snobbery while also allowing buyers to obscure lower-spec models or trim.

Naming systems[edit]

Trim levels are often designated by a pair of letters, for example DX, LX, LS, EX, GL, SE, or GT.[1] They can also be designated an alphanumeric code (e.g. Z28, XR5, GT3), or using a word (e.g. Executive, Ambition or Deluxe). Many of the letter combinations have their origins in named trim levels, with DX and DL meaning DeLuxe, GL «Grand Luxe», SE «Special Edition», GT «Gran Turismo», and so on.

In North American, long-running designations for high-performance trim levels include Chevrolet’s «SS» (first introduced on the 1961 Impala)[6] and Ford’s «GT» (first used on the 1965 Mustang).[7][8] General Motors also uses alphanumeric coding to denote handling packages installed on performance vehicles, such as «Z28» on the Camaro, the Buick GS, or the Oldsmobile 442, and currently uses the designation «Z71» on the Suburban and Tahoe.

Some manufacturers have consistently used the same word for the highest trim level on several models, for example Nissan used the word «Brougham» as the highest trim level on both the Cedric[9][10] and Gloria.[11] The «Brougham» designation as a trim level originated in the North American (US) market; it was originally a bodystyle.

Options packages[edit]

Example of trim packages on the 1980 American Motors Spirit models.

Manufacturers sometimes sell bundles of options as an options package, usually at a discounted price compared with buying each option individually.

Common options packages currently include:

  • Trim/appearance package: May include special paint colours, upgraded interior trim pieces (often made from aluminium, chrome or timber) and exterior decals. In past decades, appearance packages have also included two-tone paint, pin striping, bumpers painted the same color as the vehicle body, and vinyl roof covers.
  • Sports/performance package: May include engine upgrades, handling upgrades (see below), a more aggressive front spoiler, a rear wing, upgraded brakes, and a limited slip differential. In an SUV or light truck, a sports package may consist of racks or tiedowns for transport of off-road recreational vehicles and other equipment.
  • Towing package: May include heavy duty radiator, larger cooling fans, extra transmission cooling provisions, and revised axle gearing.
  • Safety package: May include seat belt pre-tensioners, additional air bags, collision avoidance system (AEB), electronic stability control and adaptive headlights.
  • Handling package: May include stiffer springs, stiffer shock absorbers, stiffer anti-roll bars, larger/lightweight wheels or higher grip tires.
  • Navigation package: Satellite navigation, often with turn-by-turn instructions.

Part way into into its third generation, the Hyundai Tuscon firmly retains its place as one of the best small SUVs on the market. The 2020 Hyundai Tuscon has a few flaws, sure, but they are ones that can be looked past. Avoid the base engine and plan on spending a little more at the pump; other than this, you will probably find a lot of things that you enjoy about this vehicle.

First, it gives you a huge amount of standard features for the cost. And, when it comes to infotainment features, Hyundai nails them, giving you easy-to-access features that don’t malfunction and cause distracted driving. You also get a nice, cozy ride quality out of this SUV. Finally, the interior design looks really upscale — more so than what you might expect from a non-luxury vehicle.

So, which of the 2020 Hyundai Tuscon’s seven trim levels is the right one for you? Could it be the base SE? How about the Sport? Or are you looking for the utmost in creature comforts, which the Ultimate can provide? This trim level comparison review will help answer your questions. By the end of this review, we will declare which trim level will give the average driver the best overall deal.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Tucson SE vs Value Trims. What is the difference?

To kick things off, we have the 2020 Hyundai Tuscon’s base trim level, the SE, and the second trim level up, the Value. Both of these trim levels are powered by a 2.0-L 4-cylinder engine, which generates 161 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but all-wheel drive is optional on every trim level. Also, a 6-speed automatic transmission gets paired up with every engine option in the line-up. This engine nets these trim levels 23 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and a combined 26 mpg on the front-wheel drive variants. On all-wheel drive, they get 22 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and a combined 23.

These five-seater small SUVs both have a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, which is pretty much on par for their segment. Other mechanical features that come standasrd on the SE and Value trim levels include independent MacPherson struts up front, an independent multi-link rear suspension, and 17-inch alloy wheels. On the whole, these two trim levels show no real mechanical differences.

On the exterior, these trim levels share projector headlights that are automatic, a roof-mounted center high mount stop light, power-folding body-colored side mirrors, body-colored door handles, solar glass, privacy glass on the rear, and a shark fin roof antenna. The Value gives you a few additional standard features, such as roof side rails, heated side mirrors, and LED daytime running lights.

Their interiors are somewhat similar as well. Cloth seats are the standard, and there is YES Essentials grey and beige cloth material. The driver’s seat is power-adjustable six different ways, and the 60/40-split folding rear seats have a reclining function for additional comfort. The dual-level cargo floor allows for a more versatile storage area, and manual air conditioning also comes equipped.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come equipped and allow you to sync your smartphone app’s with the vehicle’s infotainment system. On the SE, there is a 7-inch color touchscreen display with a 6-speaker sound system. The Value trim level gets SiriusXM and HD Radio added into the mix. Front auxiliary and USB outlets come standard, as do a rearview monitor, tilt and telescoping steering wheel with multiple controls mounted onto it, a 3.5-inch multi-information display, power windows (with automatic down on the driver’s window), remote keyless entry, power door locks, two 12-volt outlets up front and one in the cargo area, and a proximity key entry feature with push button start.

The Value trim level does get a few important upgrades. First, there is the driver’s seat, which becomes 8-way power-adjustable. The front seats also get standard heating, which feels amazing when the weather is cool. The Blue Link Connected Car system also comes standard. This system gathers vehicle information and has features like SOS emergency assistance, maintenance alert, and automated collision assistance and notification.

Speaking of safety, the Tuscon’s two lowest trim levels are remarkably well-equipped with standard safety features. Both trim levels have driver attention warning, lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance assistance, an anti-theft system, rear child safety locks, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Value, of course, gets a few more desirable safety features. It is equipped with blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic collision warning.

Overall, the SE trim has a good amount of standard equipment, but the Value gives you exponentially more for just a little over $1,000. The Value trim indeed lives up to its name.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Tucson Value vs SEL Trims.  What is the difference?

The next level up is the SEL. This trim level has some noteworthy differences, the first of them — and the most obvious once you start driving it — is the engine. The SEL (and all above trim levels) gets a 2.4-L inline-4 cylinder engine that is capable of generating 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. While the transmission and drivetrain options remain the same, the towing capacity gets boosted to 2,000 pounds. Also, it gets bigger 18-inch alloy wheels.

On the outside, the SEL gets a few important alterations. It gains premium front and rear fascias and side sills which serve to make the SEL look a little bit more posh on the exterior. Otherwise, you should expect most of the Value’s great features to remain on the SEL. The cabin is mostly the same, too, save for the addition of a USB outlet in the second row, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and rear A/C vents mounted on the floor console.

All of the safety features that come on the Value trim also come on the SEL. Choosing between the Value and SEL will come down to how much more power you want from the vehicle’s engine. If you crave a swift acceleration, then the SEL’s 2.4-L engine is the better choice for you.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Tucson SEL vs Sport Trims. What is the difference?

Looking for something a little sporty? Well, then the Tuscon’s Sport trim might be of interest. It prices about $2,000 above the SEL trim and has the same set-up under the hood. However, the wheels are upgraded to 19-inch Sport wheels done in alloy.

The body has some noteworthy changes. The projector headlights get dumped in favor of LED headlights and taillights. LED daytime running lights and front fog lights also come standard. There is also a hands-free smart liftgate that has automatic opening and an adjustable height setting.

A lot of interior features are also the same, but there are a few stark contrasts. The biggest is the Infinity Audio System, which has Clari-Fi music restoration technology. It also has 8 speakers and an external amplifier. Wireless device charging is also available.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Tucson Sport vs Limited Trims.  What is the difference?

The Limited trim level is close to topping the line-up and does slap on some additional features that make it worth the $2,000 price jump up from the Sport trim. The engine is the same, but it gets the same 18-inch alloy wheels that can be found on the SEL trim level.

Many things are the same on the outside, but the Limited gets some additions to what the Sport offers. The Limited gets integrated turn signals on the side mirrors, a chrome accent grille, chrome door handles, and chrome window trim molding. The interior gains lush leather seats, an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, and a leather-clad shift knob and steering wheel with heating.

As far as safety features go, the Limited gains a surround-view camera to help you see all areas around the vehicle. Aside from these changes, you will get all the features you find on the Sport trim. Most of the alterations are based on luxury aesthetics.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Tucson Limited vs Night Trims. What is the difference?

The Night trim level costs a little over a grand more than the Limited, but it does make a few interesting additions. Everything is the same under the hood, but the Night gets 19-inch BBS alloy wheels that are finished in black satin. The exterior is, quite clearly, swathed in black, hence the trim level’s name. There are black window sill moldings, a black paint job, black door handles and side mirrors, and unique dual exhaust finishers.

On the inside — you guessed it — you will see more black. While the seats are cloth, the leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob has perforation. There are also aluminum alloy sport pedals, and smart cruise control with stop and start.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Tucson Night vs Ultimate Trims.  What is the difference?

Here we are, at the top of the 2020 Hyundai Tuscon line-up. As you can see, the lower trim levels already have a lot of features. So what can the Ultimate possibly add? Well, there are a couple of things that make the Ultimate worth its cost.

First, there the additions of high beam assist, ventilated front seats, and heated second row seats. An 8-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation gets thrown into the standard features mix, as do rain sensing wipers, and a 4.2-inch LCD multi-information instrument gauge panel. Like the Night, it has forward collision avoidance assist, and it has the Limited’s surround view camera. Virtually everything else remains the same as what is on the Limited.

Which Trim to Choose?

The 2020 Hyundai Tuscon has a pretty solid line-up. The base trim is decently equipped, but it and the Value are hindered by the laggy 2.0-L 4-cylinder engine. The engine is the real downfall of the line-up, but, thankfully, the 2.4-L makes up for it. But that does mean you have to spend more to get more.

If you do not mind the extra few grand you will have to pay, the SEL is a nice middle-ground between the lower trim levels and the higher ones. It has an abundance of infotainment features and almost all of the safety features that you can get on the Tuscon. The SEL might not be as luxurious as the Limited, Night, or Ultimate, but it is still a fine-looking vehicle all the same. The interior is cozy, and the materials all look to be high quality.

Of course, if you can swing it, the Night is really cool if you prefer all black. The Ultimate is also quite a steal for the price. It actually rivals — and even bests — some small SUVs. But the SEL should be just right for the average driver.

The 2018 Hyundai Accent comes in three trims: SE, SEL, and Limited. All models come standard with a 130-horsepower four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. The base model is available with either a manual or automatic transmission, while the other trims only come with an automatic.

What 2020 Hyundai Accent Trim Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

Looking for a vehicle that is small and practical but is not a total bore to drive? Then you might want to consider getting the 2020 Hyundai Accent. While a lot of its best features get reserved for the top trim level, the lower trims do have some good qualities.

The Accent has a spacious interior for being a small sedan. It also has a spunkier driving performance than what you might expect from an economy vehicle. It has remarkable handling and steering capabilities and is not a drain on fuel. The addition of the new 4-cylinder engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT) get at least 36 mpg combined. In road tests, the Accent has gotten even better numbers than that EPA estimate.

Unfortunately, this engine is not as powerful as the outgoing one. The new one gets 120 hp, which creates a lag on the gas pedal. Acceleration is slow, so you’ll need more time to get up to speed on the highway and merge between lanes. It certainly makes for a bit of frustration for those of us who like to drive fast.

That being said, is the 2020 Hyundai Accent the right small sedan for you? Is there a trim level that best suits your needs? Are there any you should skip directly over? Read through to the end of this trim level comparison review and find out which 2020 Hyundai Accent trim level we think gives drivers the best deal.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Accent SE vs SEL — What is the Difference?

The 2020 Hyundai Accent’s base trim level is known as the SE, and its middle trim is the SEL. The SEL prices at about $1,500 more than the SE, and for a good reason — it adds more features. Let’s take a look at how these two trim levels compare.

The SE is powered by a 1.6-L 4-cylinder engine that makes 120 hp and 113 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the trade-off is less power from the engine. The SE has a 6-speed manual transmission, but the SEL swaps it out in favor of what Hyundai calls the Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). It is basically a CVT that simulates extremely smooth gear shifts from an automatic transmission. The IVT is optional on the SE. Front-wheel drive comes standard across the entire line-up.

Aside from that, the vehicles have similar mechanical features. The SE does have smaller 15-inch steel wheels with covers while the SEL gets upgraded to 15-inch alloys. The MacPherson struts on the front suspension and torsion axle with coil springs on the rear are also standard for the whole line-up.

The SE has a few exterior features that are worth mentioning. It has a one-touch triple turn signal, side mirrors that are body-colored and power-adjustable, and a chrome grille placed on the front fascia. The SEL has slightly more, adding fog lights, automatic headlight control, heating on the side mirrors, and chrome window belt molding.

The interior of the SE does have a bit to offer, but bear in mind that it is a base trim on an economy vehicle. The SE is equipped with premium cloth seat upholstery (which tends to be a bit stiff, unfortunately), a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way height adjustability, sliding and reclining adjustments, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, air conditioning, a timed rear defrost, cruise control, a steering wheel with audio controls mounted onto it, Bluetooth hands-free capability, power windows, remote keyless entry with a panic alert button, and a 4-speaker sound system with a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Other interior features on the SE include a rear view camera that has dynamic guidelines and smartphone and MP3 USB/auxiliary input jacks.

The SEL does, of course, have a bit more. On this mid-level trim, you get a passenger’s side seat-back pocket, an outside temperature display, Bluetooth with voice recognition, an auto-up window on the driver’s side, a 7-inch touchscreen display, a 6-speaker sound system, and two USB charging ports. Smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard as well, making it exponentially easier to access your phone’s apps while you are driving.

Naturally, an abundance of safety features are a must-have on all newer vehicles. It is safe to say that the base SE trim level is modestly equipped with these. You will not find any advanced driver aids on the SE or SEL. For that, you will have to upgrade all the way to the Limited trim. But the SE and SEL both have some important safety features.

The SE comes with vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, remote keyless entry, and the LATCH system for child car safety seats. Hill start control is available if you get the IVT instead of the 6-speed manual transmission. To that, the SEL adds the driver’s blind spot mirror and hill start assist as a standard feature.

As you can see, Hyundai keeps the Accent feeling like an economy car when it comes to features. Still, the ride quality is better than expected, which might compensate for a lack of standard features. However, the SE definitely feels minimalist while the SEL is a bit more inclusive. But it might not be enough for some drivers.

Compare the 2020 Hyundai Accent SEL vs Limited — What is the Difference?

That is where the Limited trim level comes in. It is the Accent’s line-topper, and it adds more to the mix. It does price about $2,000 above the SEL, so you will have to budget for that if you want the most in terms of features. Luckily, it is not a terribly big jump, and there is little in the way of extra packages and stand-alone options worth adding on.

So, is the Limited worth its price tag? How much can you actually get? Will the Limited feel less bare-bones than the two lower trim levels? It is time to find out.

It does come with the exact same powertrain, drivetrain, and suspension systems that you get on the SEL. In fact, the only mechanical difference is that the Limited gets boosted up to 17-inch alloy wheels instead of the SEL’s 15-inchers. This can change the ride quality, and the 15-inch wheels might be a little bit too small for some drivers.

The Limited’s exterior does get treated to a few decent upgrades. It is equipped with standard LED headlights and daytime running lights, LED taillights, turn signals integrated into the side mirrors, and a power sunroof. Everything else carries over from the SEL. Having LED lights instead of halogens is preferable since LEDs are brighter and are known to last longer than halogen bulbs. Therefore, you can see a bit better at night with the LED lights and might not have to replace bulbs as frequently. Of course, the sunroof is a sweet bonus for those who like to get a bit of sun and air into the vehicle.

On the inside, there are a few more luxurious upgrades to be found. For starters, heating comes standard on the front seats and is a delight to use during cooler months. There is also a proximity key instead of remote keyless entry. The proximity key comes with push button start, which absolutely comes in handy. Other than that, you will find that the Limited trim level has the same infotainment system and audio set-up as the SEL as well as the same upholstery and trim.

As far as safety features go, barely anything gets added. The only driver aid you will get is the forward collision avoidance assistance feature. This feature is found on many other competitors, who are starting to put it on their lower trim levels. Highly desired safety features like blind spot monitoring, advanced cruise control, and pedestrian detection are not available on the 2020 Hyundai Accent.

As you can tell, the Limited is the most loaded trim level of the bunch. But, even for being an economy vehicle, it lacks some of the same standard features that its competitors are equipping on their models.

Which Trim to Choose?

Unfortunately, the 2020 Hyundai Accent is stuck in a quagmire of a market. A lot of consumers are wanting larger vehicles but also crave fuel efficiency since that saves them money at the pump. They also want as many standard safety and infotainment features as they can possibly get. And the Accent does not really deliver that. This means that the Accent is probably going to get overlooked in favor of other makes and models this year. This is even more unfortunate since the Accent does put in a good driving performance for the small sedan segment.

Hyundai just has not gotten the balance between fuel efficiency, power, and standard features right on the 2020 Hyundai Accent. Other automakers, such as Kia and Honda, are dominating the competition with their well-balanced, well-equipped, affordably priced small sedans. And, in a market dominated by crossovers, SUVs, and trucks, the fight for sedans to stay alive is real. Ford and Chevy are dwindling down their sedan line-ups, and Hyundai is seemingly at risk as well.

The 2020 Hyundai Accent is not a terrible vehicle when it comes to fuel efficiency and handling. It just feels like everything else is cheaply put together, especially the cloth seat upholstery. You cannot get an upgrade on the upholstery either.

Picking a winning trim level is simple here. The Limited is the only trim level on the 2020 Hyundai Accent that is worthy of purchase. The SE and SEL feel a little bit too basic to meet the needs of the average driver. And, with the downgrade in power from the new 1.6-L engine, it is fair to say that some drivers will feel disappointed in the Accent.

Of course, if you are dead set on getting the 2020 Hyundai Accent, skip the SE and SEL and go straight to the Limited. For around $20,000, you get a decent amount of standard features. The forward collision avoidance assistance feature is a huge bonus, but it really should be made standard on at least the SEL, if not also on the SE.

Overall, the 2020 Hyundai Accent provides an enjoyable enough ride. Many aspects of its drive performance are surprisingly good. However, Hyundai is holding the Accent back from being a truly tough competitor by withholding certain standard features, especially when its comes to driver aids. In the end, if any trim level is going to be bought, it should be the Limited. This line-topper has the most features and is not terribly expensive. The fuel economy will help make the Accent more attractive, so that is the one big bonus here.

Расставляем акценты: какой Hyundai Accent II выбрать

Hyundai Accent II —

  • непосредственно из Кореи — седаны;
  • из США — купе, хетчбэки;

When you look to buy a car, the various trim levels are sure to cause some confusion. Do you want the base model or are you looking to upgrade to the luxury-focused trim? What is “trim” on a car and does it matter which one you choose? When automakers discuss the trim you can choose, they aren’t normally looking at the body of the vehicle but rather the features included.

In this article, we discuss what various trim levels mean. We also talk about how to choose the one that best fits your lifestyle and budget.

The trim of a car reveals what features and amenities are included with the car. In general, the trim shows what safety technology, powertrain options, aesthetic features and comfort amenities are added. Most automakers provide several trim levels for every model.

All vehicles feature a base trim level. These are the models with the least amount of features included. From here, there are other trim levels that build upon this base trim. Many trim levels consist of various letters predetermined by the manufacturer.

Car Trim Level Examples

1. Base Trim Levels

All car manufacturers use a base trim to start the models. This is the most standard vehicle in the lineup, with the basics covered.

Here are a few of the trim level names you might find, depending on the manufacturer.

  • S – Standard
  • L – Entry Level
  • SL – Standard Level
  • SV – Standard Value
  • EX – Extra

2. Sport & Performance Trim Levels

When a vehicle offers a turbocharged powertrain or sport-focused trim, there will be a special designation illustrating that. Sometimes, the trim level uses the words turbo or sport in the name.

Other times, you might see these trim levels:

  • RS – Rally Sport
  • GT – Gran Turismo
  • GTS – Grand Turismo Sport
  • SR – Sport Rally
  • LS – Luxury Sport
  • SRT – Street and Racing Technology
  • XSE – Extreme Sport Edition
  • TRD – Toyota Racing Development

3. Luxury Trim Levels

On the higher end of the spectrum, you will find luxury-focused trim levels. These high trims will contain names, such as Touring, Reserve, Black Label, Premium or Platinum.

There are some other abbreviations that might be used.

  • EX-L – Extra Luxury
  • ES – Executive Sedan
  • LE – Luxury Edition
  • LX – Luxury
  • LT – Luxury Touring
  • SLT – Special Luxury Touring
  • LTD – Limited
  • XLE – Executive Luxury Edition
  • SEL – Special Edition Limited

How Many Trim Levels Do Manufacturers Offer?

It depends on what type of car is being offered and what company made it. Some companies offer one trim level, while others have six or more. In the majority of cases, you will find about four or five to pick from.

The base trim is the entry-level model. It will come with a barebones amount of equipment but is also the cheapest of the bunch. As the trim levels move upward, there will be more equipment included, but the price also rises accordingly.

By the time you get the highest trim level, the car will have all or most of the options offered. It will be the most premium option in the lineup.

Illustrating the Trim Level Classifications

As an example, we can look at a popular model on the road right now, the 2022 Kia Telluride. Let’s examine all of the trim levels that are available with this midsize SUV.

Kia Telluride LX

This base model includes synthetic leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and proximity keyless entry. It also comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 10.25” infotainment system, satellite radio, a navigation system, voice recognition, Bluetooth, six USB ports and a six-speaker sound system.

Standard safety features include a rear-seat alert, a rearview camera, safe exit assist, driver attention monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring. Plus, it includes stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, highway driving assist, lane keep assist, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and lane departure warning. This is the cheapest new Telluride model.

Kia Telluride S

The S trim level builds on the base model. Everything included with that model can be found with the S, except for a few upgrades.

This SUV includes a sunroof, heated front seats and a leather-wrapped shift knob. It also comes with an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and wireless device charging.

Kia Telluride EX

Moving up another level, we come to the EX trim. This SUV includes a second-row bench seat for higher occupancy.

It also gains leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat and an extra USB port. Plus, it has second-row sunshades, power-folding exterior mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a hands-free power liftgate.

Kia Telluride SX

The top trim level is the SX. This model has the highest price but includes the most standard features. Among these, owners gain LED headlights, LED fog lights and a dual-pane sunroof.

Among the technology features, it includes a 7” instrument cluster display, 64-color ambient lights and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon premium surround-sound stereo system. It also comes with a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat featuring memory settings, stainless steel pedals, a blind-spot camera, a surround-view parking camera system, front parking sensors and automatic high-beam headlights.

What Are Car Options?

On top of being able to choose the trim level, you will also have some options to pick from. Each add-on will increase the price accordingly.

Sometimes, options will only be allowed with specific trim levels, while others can be added to any trim. There are options for aesthetics, convenience, comfort and entertainment. You can also add-on safety features if you wish.

Here are a few examples that might be available:

  • Premium stereo system
  • Sunroof
  • Adjustable seats
  • Turbocharged engine
  • Leather interior
  • Rear spoiler
  • LED lights
  • Wireless device charging
  • Rear-seat entertainment
  • Towing hitch

What are Car Packages?

Each manufacturer also offers a variety of packages. These are added on to a specific trim to provide more functionality, design or comfort. Here are a few basic types of packages available.

Appearance Package

The appearance packages change how the vehicle looks. It can include interior and exterior changes.

Some examples of what might be included would be a new paint scheme, window tint and a roof spoiler. It could also include upgraded interior accessories or exterior decals.

Performance Package

With a performance package, the automaker changes how the vehicle operates, whether it increases power or changes the handling. These upgrades could be made directly to the engine.

There could also be some brake upgrades to improve stopping distance. If you are driving a truck, there could be special tie-downs added to increase capability.

Sports Package

If you are driving a sports car or one that could be sportier, there might be a special package that helps to elevate it. Whether it is with the style or function, the sports package has a lot to offer.

You might find Recaro sports seats or larger wheels included. It could also contain special tires, paddle shifters and a better steering wheel.

Towing Package

If you plan to tow with your vehicle, a towing package might be in order. With many vehicles, you can’t achieve the maximum towing capacity without this package.

It could include special engine cooling features, such as transmission cooling and a heavy-duty radiator. It might also have a trailer hitch with wiring and upgraded axle gearing.

Safety Package

If you desire increased on-road safety from your vehicle, you will want to add the safety package. It adds to the standard equipment that’s already on your car.

Depending on what model you choose, this package could include adaptive cruise control, extra airbags, automatic emergency braking and adaptive headlights. It might also include blind spot detection, forward collision avoidance, a surround-view parking camera and parking sensors.

Off-road Package

If you drive a vehicle that could be taken off-road, you might want to see if there’s special equipment that can be included. Instead of purchasing each option separately, most manufacturers provide a package.

In an off-road package, you might get bigger tires, a special suspension, more clearance and upgraded springs. It could also include new shocks, anti-roll bars and off-road navigation.

Entertainment Package

If you want more technology, there’s normally an option to add some heightened entertainment. These packages are especially helpful if you have rear-seat passengers that need to be occupied.

With an entertainment package, you might get rear-seat screens, an upgraded stereo and extra USB ports. It might also include satellite radio, wireless device charging and an in-car intercom system.

How to Find Car Trim Level

If you don’t know the trim level of your vehicle, you can look at the back. There might be a decal showing the trim level.

Otherwise, you can look for it in the owner’s manual or on the original dealer invoicing. You can also use the VIN (17-digit identification number) of the vehicle to run a check online with KBB to get the trim level. If all else fails, call the dealership and give them the VIN to determine the trim level.

I was just wondering what the difference is between the GLS, Limited, and any other ones there are. I’m not even sure which one I have.

#2

·

The GLS has cloth seats, 16″ wheels. Limited is the top of the line trim has leather, 17″ alloy wheels. Th LX trim was (the limited trim) for 2006. There is also the SE which is a sportier trim with stiffer springs, and anti roll bars. There is a limited edition platinum trim which has a silver exterior trim with a black interior

#5

·

LX (Limited) also had automatic temp control, sliding console armrest, chrome trim on the ext door handles. 17″ wheels were optional on GLS. Some dealers would add leather on GLS as a dealer add on.

#7

·

I have a 2006 LX I believe
It had
17″ wheel, sunroof, rear view mirror with garage buttons and digital compass. leather, hmmm esc button, I think it was the limited for 06.

Because the 2007 one i looked at which had «limited badge» on it was almost identical.

The black interior platinum I htink only came out for 07?

#8

·

The limited badge started in 2007. My 2006 LX doesn’t have the sunroof. I have the beige leather seating.

#10

·

Mine also doesn’t have a sunroof and has the beige leather.

#11

·

That’s very weird. I haven’t seen a sonata without the sunroof.

#12

·

2006 — 2010 Sonata model / trim levels vary depending on the year as does options available for each trim level;

GLS — added fog lights, 3.3L 235 hp V6 Engine, 5-Speed Automatic Transmission, steering wheel mounted audio controls, simulated wood trim, manual adjustable lumbar support for drivers seat, premium cloth upholstery, Trip computer, Front fog lights , Auto on/off, auto delay off headlights,
LX — tilt and telescopic steering wheel, Universal remote transmitter, heated power driver’s seat, heated passenger seat, auto-dimming rear view mirror, 17″ wheels

2007 Trim levels:
GLS — Base, 2.4L 162 hp I4 Engine, 16″ wheels
SE V6 — added front fog lights, 3.3L 235 hp V6 Engine, dusk sensing, auto delay off headlights, simulated wood trim, Leather shift knob trim,
premium cloth upholstery, manual adjustable lumbar support for drivers seat, steering wheel mounted audio controls,
Limited — tilt and telescopic steering wheel, Universal remote transmitter, compass · External temperature display, heated 8 way power driver’s seat with manual adjustable lumbar support, heated passenger seat, auto-dimming rear view mirror, leather upholstery, 17″ wheels, ire Pressure Monitoring System

Please feel free to add or correct anything

Also…

HSpeed, Great job at refining the list. As well as the above there are degrees of added options like trims. i.e.: I am a GLS yet I have the wood interior trim rather than just metallic or grey finishes. I have a complete breakdown somewhere on my computer. The VIN is where the real definitions are told.
